Scope and content: Newspaper cutting concerning the Aberystwyth Town Council election for 1898, illustrated with copy of candidate's circular, 'Vote for G. Croydon Marks and the New Railway' - possibly the proposed narrow gauge coastal line to Aberaeron, for which permission was gained 1898-1904.

Marks, subsequently an M.P. and then Sir George, before being ennobled as Lord Marks, was engineer to the Aberystwyth Improvement Co., that was responsible for the Cambria Hotel and the funicular railway.
