The three first items on the list were formerly in the care of John Davies (Davies Bach), the one-armed head-teacher of Pontgarreg School who died in 1917 His arm had been lost in a farming accident but local children were reported as saying he still 'had one arm too many' as he had a reputation for being stern, somewhat belied by his more kindly tone in the surviving school log-books. The navigation exercises were the property of Ceri Owen, uncle to the depositor, who served in the Second World War. The items all came from the family home.
