Ref: MUS/481

Reference: [GB 0212] MUS/481
Date(s): 1949-1950
Level: Fonds
Extent: 3 items
Scope and content: Three notes written by Gareth Hubert Stanley Jones concerning a time capsule deposited in the Plynlimon - Nant-y-moch area in 1949 and moved in 1950, possibly in the vicinity of Nant-y-llyn, where there was a footbridge near a stream confluence. All three notes assume that any finder will be a scout and it is likely that instructions were passed on to other scouts.

MUS/481/1. 'To the Finder, Greetings': account of the planning of the capsule. Folded and stained.

MUS/481/2. 'Instructions to Senior Scouts, 5th June 1949', includes instructions about a pistol cartridge included in the capsule. Heavily folded and stained.

MUS/481/3. 'In July 1949, having crossed Plynlimon in rough weather from Blaen Hafren F.M. Shaw & G.H.S. Jones, of the Priory Troop, Shrewsbury, camped at the confluence below this spot and found it good. A T[ime] C[apsule] was deposited in the old bridge. The contents were later removed & placed in this spot by G.H.S.J.' Finders were instructed to redeposit the capsule and raise a cairn over it. Folded.
