Two hard-bound exercise books with marbled covers belonging to Thomas Evans of Mason Street, New Quay, containing mathematical or geometry exercises, one dated to 1870.

Book of exercises dated 7 January 1870 and finished 4 March 1870. Includes: means of exchange in destinations such as France, Spain, Genoa, Hamburg etc.; vulgar fractions; compound multiplication; annuities or pensions. Includes some coloured illustrations.

Undated book of exercises on subjects including: interest; brokage; compound interest; barter. Includes sketches of sailing ships, one coloured of the ‘Ester and Mary’. A vessel of that name, registered in Aberystwyth, included a Thomas Evans of New Quay in its crew, Jan-June, 1868 (see Shipping Records: TSR/1).
