Scope and Content: 'Llyfr Scrap, Ardal Ysgol Cynradd Penlôn, Llwyncelyn, prifathro [headmaster] J. Mervin Williams B.A.' Scrapbook in torn cardboard covers with tape fastenings. Contents divided into five separately bound chapters (LIB/3/4/1-5), also map (LIB/3/4/6). Contents largely Welsh language, with some English.

The writer proffers a guinea fee (25 October).

12. Empty mount, 'Pig!', 'Abermarlais was one of the local centres for pig-killing at the turn of the century, the other being Cadell y Geifr'; photograph on card mount, 'Haymaking at Rhyd y Gofaint. Mounted on leading horse is the late Mrs Hannah Morris, 'Meirion'.
13. Photograph mounted on card, 'Ffos-y-ffin 1909', showing equestrians, dismounted cyclists and pedestrians in the road. The caption identifies the then local smithy, points the way to the first Methodist chapel, 'Ty Croes' of 1780 and a communal oven, and notes that a row of cottages had been built by Thomas Evans, Pontbreinddu, and roofed with slates taken from a vessel wrecked in Cei Bach (see LIB/3/4/4/16).
14. Three photographs: 'Ffoundry, ffosyffin', 'At the beginning of the present century, there was a shop in the present house'; 'Maesteg, Ffosyffin', 'The home of Evan Owens the weaver (showing his workshop after renovation)', Owens was deacon and singing precentor, as well as a gifted bee keeper; 'Ffoes Bont Bren', 'Home of Michael Jones, first Principal of the Bala college for ministerial students with the Congregationalists.

33-34. 'Copy of a Report on a monthly meeting, published in the “Welsh Gazette” on 18th 1899', Roseleen Davies, 10. The text gives the context for the Methodist Thomas Grey's move to Ffos-y-ffin in around 1750, 'for a number of years ... a Llangeitho on a smaller scale'. Notice is also taken of Mr Charles of Bala's personal establishment of a Sunday School at Ffos-y-ffin.

1. (insertion) Additional handwritten title page on reverse of Welsh/English notice from Cardiganshire Joint Library concerning the recall of plastic tokens (for borrowing English novels). The tokens were being redeemed at 5/ each.
2. Three illustrations: 'Capel Neuaddlwyd, 1746', 'The present chapel after renovations'; photograph printed as carte postale, 'The memorial to the Immortals of Neuaddlwyd. Two Sunday School members, Morgan James and John Lewis, photographed after receiving prizes for good attendance'; 'The Academy, Neuaddlwyd', 'Ty'r Ysgol, Ffosyffin, as it was in the time of Dr Phillips'.

4. Commemorative sheet for David Jones, a missionary to Madagascar who was born at Penrhiw, near Neuaddlwyd, in 1796, studied at the Neuaddlwyd Academy, was ordained in 1817 and died at Mauritius, 1841.

17. 'Welsh "Long-houses"/'Cefn Cae', English language text. Contains details of Cwmbedw, dated to 1770, and shines a light on a Bishop of Huron's past. This bishop is likely to be David Williams (1853-1931), educated at Lampeter, bishop of Huron 1905-1926 and then metropolitan of Ontario.

20. Snapshot, 'Meirion, Llwyncelyn, before being renovated', 'Mother' in pencil on reverse, 'The late Mrs Morris is seen standing near her old home. She was the daughter of Sion, the blacksmith'; photograph printed as postcard, 'Ivy Dene, Llwyncelyn, before renovation'. 'Locally known as "Ty Dwl" (Silly House) ... people were bemused by the variety of ways by which it could be entered'; snapshot, 'Ifan the carpenter and his grandson', 'Ifan the blacksmith lived in Arfon View, Llwyncelyn ... For many years he was singing precentor in Llwyncelyn Chapel'.

1. Cabinet photograph by Atkins and Lockyear of Newport, Mon., 'Sir Garrod Thomas and his nephew, Aeron'; colour photograph, 'Panteryrod. Talking to the present owner, D.J. Davies, are two descendants of Sir Garrod'. 8 July 1960. Garrod Thomas (1853-1931) was a physician, magistrate and MP for the Newport constituency. He was High Sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1900.

Addressed from Clytha Park, these letters discuss possible Under Sheriff and London deputies, the date on which the writer was to come into office, 5, 13 March 1900, and the provision of trumpeters and other attendants at a reception at Lampeter, 'how many can they lunch?', 11 April 1900.
