Scope and Content:
Hand-drawn map of 'The Four Forests or Bishop's Forests’, the earliest known detailed map of the area which lies within the parish of Llanddewi Brefi near the border with Carmarthenshire.
The map maker, Thomas Lewis was known to be working in the area at the time. Maps by him survive for the Gogerddan Estate and for Llanfair Clydogau; these are in the National Library of Wales. A map prepared for Thomas Johnes of Hafod relating to his estate in Llanddewi Brefi, also held in the NLW, appears to feature land abutting the map.
