Roedd y teulu Phillips yn siaradwyr Cymraeg ac yn byw ym Min Hafan, Rhes Rheidol, Aberystwyth. Roeddynt yn aelodau o Gapel y Bedyddwyr ac yn cymryd rhan eiddgar mewn eisteddfodau.

Ganed Miss Mattie Phillips BA, merch David Phillips (gweler isod) ar 10 Ionawr, 1908, yng Nglyn-nedd a bu farw ar 16 Mawrth, 2001, yn Aberystwyth. Fe astudiodd yn Aberystwyth a bu’n athrawes mewn nifer o ysgolion - yn y Trallwng, y Drenewydd, Machynlleth, Llandysul a chwpl o rai eraill ymhellach i ffwrdd. Ni wnaeth hi briodi. Ar ryw adeg rhwng 1950 a 1970, fe newidiodd ei henw i Martha Phillips.

Mae’r casgliadau’n cynnwys papurau a gasglwyd ac a grëwyd neu’u cadw gan Mattie Phillips a fu’n yn byw ym Min Hafan tan ddiwedd ei hoes. Maent yn dyddio yn bennaf o 40au, 50au a 60au’r ganrif ddiwethaf ond mae yna ddeunydd hyn a mwy diweddar ar gael hefyd. Dyma aelodau eraill y teulu:

David Phillips (ganed 24 Tachwedd 1873 yng Nglyn-nedd a bu farw ar 24 Tachwedd, 1966, yn Aberystwyth) â€" gweithiai ar y rheilffordd i’r GWR. Fe’i hadnabyddir hefyd fel bardd â’r enw Dewi o'r Glyn.
Gwenllian Rees (ganed ar 6 Hydref, 1877, yn Rhigos, a bu farw ar 24 Chwefror, 1949, yn Aberystwyth) - gwraig David (uchod). Gwnaethant briodi ar 8 Ionawr, 1902.

Yn ychwanegol i Mattie, roedd ganddynt dri phlentyn arall:

Thomas Morgan Phillips (11 Ebrill 1904 - 23 Awst 1985). Ei wraig oedd Megan Griffiths. Fel ei dad, bu’n gweithio fel gyrrwr trên.

John Rowland Emrys Phillips (4 Hydref 1909 - 4 Ebrill 1988). Ei wraig oedd Mair Jones. Roedd yn ddarlithydd Economeg yn CPC.

Betty Myfanwy Phillips (ganed 25 Hydref 1913, Llansawel - 16 Mawrth 2005, Llundain). Priododd ag OG Jones.

Biographical History
With information kindly supplied by Mr. Gareth Wyn Jones, grandson of David Phillips

The Welsh-speaking Phillips family lived at Min Hafan, Rheidol Terrace, Aberystwyth. They were members of the Baptist Church and participated actively in eisteddfodau.
Miss Mattie Phillips B. A., daughter of David Phillips (see below) was born on 10 January 1908 in Glynneath and died 16 March 2001 in Aberystwyth. She studied in Aberystwyth and was subsequently a teacher in a number of schools: Welshpool, Newtown, Machynlleth, Llandysul, and a couple of others further afield. She did not marry. Some time between 1950 and 1970 she changed her name to Martha Phillips.

The collections consists of papers collected, created or retained by Mattie Phillips who lived at Min Hafan unitl her death. They date mostly from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, but there is both older and more recent material. Other family members were:

David Phillips (b. 24 November 1873 in Glynneath, d. 24 November 1966 in Aberystwyth) was a GWR railwayman. He was also known as Dewi o'r Glyn, poet.
Gwenllian Rees (b. 6 October 1877 in Rhigos, d. 24 February 1949 in Aberystwyth), wife of David (above). They married on 8 January 1902.

In addition to Mattie, they had three other children:

Thomas Morgan Phillips (11 April 1904 - 23 August 1985). His wife was Megan Griffiths. Like his father, he worked as a train driver

John Rowland Emrys Phillips (4 October 1909 - 4 April 1988). His wife was Mair Jones. He was an Economics lecturer at UCW Aberystwyth

Betty Myfanwy Phillips (b. 25 Hydref 1913, Llansawel - 16 Mawrth 2005, London). She married O.G. Jones.

Includes some commemorative picture stamps: Coleg Prifysgol Aberystwyth; Concorde; the wedding of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips; the QE II.

Contains manuscripts of poems by Dewi o'r Glyn, tickets to events (such as eisteddfod and cymanfa ganu), and other miscellaneous material, all apparently having belonged to Dewi o'r Glyn. Presumably removed from the jacket after its owner’s death. (18 items)
