Rees James Rees was born in Llandisilio on 9 July 1882. He worked predominantly as a builder, but was also a gravedigger and seems to have made plaques for coffins. The diaries contain entries in both English and Welsh. The majority of the entries relate to building work carried out, including estimates and payments received. When asked to create a plaque, he recorded the names and ages of the deceased. Many of the diaries include the names of the preachers for the Sunday service.
